The Stone Family – Todd, Kai, Stella, and Rosemary

Welcome

Hi, I’m Todd and I train teachers how to use technology to make their work more efficient, engage their students, and leverage social media to connect with other educators.

I’m originally from Northern California, but now live in Seattle and love it here! I’m married to my beautiful wife, best friend, and business partner Rosemary,  and we have two amazing kids and an English Bulldog named Bulluga.

Why This Blog

This blog is for teachers to learn technology and get training resources. I’ve been teaching teachers technology for the last 14 years. My students alway tell me the problem with using technology in their classroom is the lack of good professional development around technology. Training usually consists of some tech person talking way over their head and confusing them more than teaching them.  I’ve been in trainings like this and it pisses me off when I see a trainer/teacher trying to inflate their own ego at the cost of losing their students by teaching above them. No one likes to feel like an idiot and have their time is wasted.

I’ve created this blog and an email list to share training and resources with all levels of teachers from K-12 – Higher Ed. I’m a geek, but I don’t teach like one. I know how intimidating and frustrating technology can be to learn…..I keep it simple and in plain english. I also realize you don’t have a lot of extra time, so I try to make my training short, quick, and simple.

Technology is just a tool and will never be a substitute for great teachers. As I learn about other teachers doing great things with technology, I’ll share their successes in this blog. This blog also shows you how to use different technologies to save you time, and develop 21st century skills for you and your students.  My personal goal is to provide you with solid content and hope you find value in this information, so please leave comments on the posts, or email me at todd@educatortechnologytraining.com and let me know what you think and what you would like to learn more about.

Sign-up below for my email list and be the first to get access to my free trainings and eGuides. I’m always looking for, and learning about new educational technology tools and share this information with my list subscribers. If you sign-up now, I’m giving away a free eGuide titled The 3 Technologies Every Teacher Needs to Know. This guide walks you through Google Docs, Twitter, and Camtasia and shows you how these tools are used in the classroom.

My Story

After graduating college with a Political Science degree, I made the next logical move…I moved to Hollywood to work on a Steven Spielberg movie. For three years, I worked on various feature films and television, learning from award winning film crews how to make movies and TV shows. IMDB lists a few of the movies I worked on.

After working in Hollywood for a couple years, I realized I enjoyed watching movies more than working on them. I moved back home to Northern CA and worked as a web developer until the Dot-com bubble burst, and then found myself out of work. A friend suggested I teach technology courses at the local community college… so I did, and this changed my life. I fell in love with teaching and have been doing it ever since.

For the last 14 years I’ve kept one foot in the tech industry working as a web developer, systems administrator, project manager, and technical trainer. At the same time, I’ve kept the other foot in education as a teacher, educational technologist, instructional designer, and faculty trainer. I’ve worked for universities and Fortune 100 technology companies, but the common thread running through all my work is that I’m passionate about technology and education and how the two can work together to engage students.
